The biggest annoyance that I have ever had with my Xbox 360 happened as I was playing an intense online death match game. Everything had been running just fine, and then all of a sudden my system froze and I got the three red rings of death. I honestly sat there in disbelief for a few minutes. I have heard that the 360 can be unreliable but I had never expected this to happen to me.

I couldn’t tell my friend what happened so I decided to call him on his cell. He then told me how this same problem happened to him a few months back, and that it took him over a month to receive his Xbox 360 from Microsoft. The cause of this situation happens to be overheating. Even though the red ring of death is the fault of Microsoft’s poor engineering, they wouldn’t even take care of the shipping. Yes, that’s right; they wouldn’t send me a coffin to ship my Xbox 360.

Instead of dealing with this horrible situation, take these precautionary steps to avoid the red ring of death.

Make sure that your unit is placed in an area that has proper ventilation. I happened to have my unit in a place where airflow was very scarce, so when I went to check on my console I noticed that the area was extremely hot.

If you are one of the unlucky owners of a 360 to get the red ring of death, you should try turning off and unplugging your system; let it sit and cool down for an hour or so. After this amount of time has passed, plug it back in and try to turn it on. If it works then congratulations, you just saved yourself a load of trouble.
