I let it cool off and then tried it again and the red ring of death. So how can i fix it. the 360 (though I have one and love it) is a cheap design.
my xbox did the same thing, froze, turned it off and RR, so I called up microsoft and they gave me instructions to send it back to them.however, instead of doing that, I took mine back to Walmart where i bought it, and since I purchased a two-year extended warranty, I was able to convince the manager to swap me for a new xbox (though I don’t think they’re supposta)
if you chose to take it back to where you bought it, be polite, understanding, and lucky!
-Purchasing an external fan was the first thing I did for my new 360. they’re only twenty bucks, and save you a large hassel

If your going to fix your system, (which I recommend) then you’re going to want to do it RIGHT. There are a lot of methods out there that will tell you you need to do this, or that, and honestly a lot of it is bs.
I’ve so far only found one specific method that works consistently and permanently fixes this problem without putting your console in danger.
