I heard that the Xbox has some sort of problem and that it malfunctions… I don’t want to buy a new system only to have it break on its own. What problems can occur and can they be easily fixed?

every xbox is different. You only hear the negative and never the positive. There should be a warranty on the system when you buy it, so just save you receipt. Depending on where you get it from, you could possibly just take it back to the store where you got it from and exchange. What i’m trying to say it take a chance. You’re paying a premium price for a premium product, and if something happens, you should have a way to either exchange or get your money back, even if that means extended warranty.

Well if you want to buy a Xbox I’m guess you mean the 360 in that case I suggest buying the Elite 360. I have owned the regular 360 and now have the Elite and I had to send in my regular 4 time to get repaired. But I have had no problems with the elite. The Elite also has 120 hdd instead of the 20 and also has a hdmi hook up on it. All in all its a very good system and I would recommend getting it and extended warranty. Hope this helps.

We have two 360′s and have not had either of them malfunction. The main issue right now is RRoD or Red Ring of Death. It is more or less caused by the system overheating and then malfunctioning.
MS says that they are now shipping the new processors that were promised to run cooler, and hopefully end the RRoD issues people are concerned with. MS also extended the warranty period on 360′s and has done a very good job of fixing the issues by shipping replacement units quick to people in need.
All in all I don’t think you should be concerned. The minority sound like they speak for us all with the 360 issues, but the truth is that they are not all broken. Ours are used daily without an issue – so I would say dive on in and get one.

The main reported hardware problem for XBox 360s is the famous “Red Ring of Death”. Of the original XBoxes about 1/3 would have this problem. Due to this, Microsoft has extended the warranty to 3 years. So if you get the RRoD during this time, they will fix the console at no charge to you. This is a huge time period and seems to pacify most consumers. I have known people to get the RRoD, but so far Microsoft has been very prompt in fixing it on their systems. I have also known many people to not experience any problems.
It is a great system, and I’ve taken the chance and have been very satisfied.

If you get one get the elite, it has a little better cooling system and the Hi-Def hook ups so it is a very nice set up. for the most part the 360 has been out long enough that alot of the bugs have been worked out though so you should be safe and if it makes you feel better microsoft backs there warrenties very well so if for some reason you did have a problem you would have no problems gettin it fixed.

Hi!
I’m a store manager at a major video game retailer, and I can tell you that over the past 2 months or so, I have had very few 360′s come back defective. Everyone above stated the “Red Ring of Death,” which is the most common problem with the system. However, each malfunction gives you a different “ring of death”. If lights 1,3 and 4 are lit, its one problem. 2,3 and 4 is another. Microsoft will only warranty the ring of death, if its the “internal heating problem.” (not sure which lights need to be lit to correspond with that.)I have a 360, I bought it USED from my store last November, and its STILL working great!
**Notes**
•Keep the system away from other electronic devices which generate a lot of heat.
•Keep the system off the carpet!
•Give it room to breathe!
•Make sure the system is un-touchable when playing. If it is knocked, even a centimeter when on, it will eat your disc, throw the tray and lens off-line and will give you problems from then on—This is NOT covered by our warranty, or Microsoft’s.I would buy it. It’s a great system, and the defects are few and far between now (from what I’ve seen). Out of 20 I sell, I get maybe 1 returned defect.
Good Luck! Have fun!

Well, you won’t have any of those hardware failures IF you buy the newer Premium consoles that come built-in with an HDMI port on the back. If you don’t, then the problems may be the red ring of death, freezing, and overheating. DON’T buy the Intercooler if you don’t buy the new Premium consoles. I heard from alot of people about the coolers melting and not working.
