  • Is there a loophole in Microsoft’s Xbox Repair Policy?

    Ben asked:

I don’t know if loophole is the right word, but
I have recently gotten one red ring on my xbox, the e74 error. Now I looked at Microsoft’s repair policy and to fix the e74 error, it will cost money (since my 1 year warranty is over)
However, the 3 red rings problem is common and they have extended the repairs for that to 3 years.
So having the 1 red ring problem, if I were to convert it into the 3 red rings problem, I could get my xbox repaired for free.
I would convert the 1 red ring to 3 rings by the infamous towel trick. Overheating the xbox externally would not void my warranty and I will be able to save myself some $100 from the 1 red ring repair cost.

Does anyone see any flaws to my plan?
