dont do the towel trick anymore, that will cause damage. You have the red 3 red rings of death, If your warranty stickers still intact, and the manufactures date on the back is 3 years ago or less, then you can send it in to microsoft for free and they will fix it and send it back to you. Turn around time is usually about 2 to 6 weeks in my experience. If its past the 3 year warranty then they’ll fix it for a hundred I think. alternatively you can look on craigslist.org for someone who fixes xbox in your area, that will probably about 50 bucks. If you choose that route, make sure you find someone with a 30 day warranty or something like that. good luck!

do you still have a warranty on your xbox (did you buy it new within the past 3 years) if so contact microsoft and they will fix it for free.

It was a manufacturing default and all 360′s these days DO NOT get the RROD. This problem was fixed quite a long time ago…you should send your xbox 360 to microsoft even if your warranty is out as they will probably still fix it for you. I can also fix it for AU$100… Go to my website: But it would be advised to send it to microsoft first as I do do the job, but not as professionally as they do:)
Note: Add “Chris” to any emails you send to me from my website to receive $5 discount so I know you were referred by yahoo answers.
Also, email me if you want an in dept explanation of how all this happens i.e. the cause of RROD. Long story short, after continuous use of the console and heating of the mother board, it cracks and ecentually snaps causing RROD.

Doing the Towel Trick just screws up your Xbox 360 more. You probably not only overheated the Graphics (which is what causes the RROD) you probably fried a lot of other things.
